Grand opening of Puerta Roja’s new space at SOHO 189 Art Lane with “Beyond Borders” an outstanding collective from Latin America and Spain
Puerta Roja is proud to announce its relocation to a brand new gallery space in the hottest new art and lifestyle hub SOHO 189 Art Lane. Launched in March by patron of the arts Ms. Cissy Pao, this new enclave in Sai Ying Pun has become one of the go to destinations for art lovers in the city. Puerta Roja will be joining the ranks of Pearl Lam Galleries, Galerie Huit, and Leo Gallery, bringing to the mix its distinctive stable of artists from Latin America and Spain.
Adriana Alvarez-Nichol, founder of Puerta Roja says “We are delighted to join such a strong group of galleries in this new art destination. Since our establishment, and as a founding board member of the Hong Kong Art Gallery Association, we have worked hard to find areas of collaboration with other galleries, so the move fits well with the philosophy of Puerta Roja. All galleries in SOHO 189 Art Lane will open new shows and events to accompany us during our grand opening presenting Beyond Borders, a collective with new works from our complete stable of artists. It promises to be a fantastic night!”
The new SOHO 189 Art Lane location is the next step in Puerta Roja’s growing presence in Hong Kong and Asia-Pacific. Since 2010, Puerta Roja has pioneered the promotion of established and emerging contemporary artists from Latin America and Spain in the region. The new venue is a natural progression for the gallery which prides itself on having both a strong influence in the development of the local contemporary art scene as well as a growing footprint across Asia-Pacific. Having participated in the top international art fairs in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan and Korea, the gallery boasts collectors from its home base as well as mainland China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.
Puerta Roja Gallery Director, Elizabeth Lackey, states “Beyond Borders represents the progression of our artists beyond the boundaries of their national cultures as well as traditional art forms. The show brings together new and seminal pieces that have been influenced by the artists’ experiences after having visited Hong Kong for their solo shows with Puerta Roja through the years. The works span the artistic spectrum, from traditional oil on canvas, sculpture, photography to innovative mixed media techniques like paper and metal laser cutting, glass sculptures and generative digital technology”.
Beyond Borders will present works from emerging artists such as Javier León Pérez, whose meticulous process results in textured three-dimensional paperwork landscapes; and, world renowned names such as digital pioneer Miguel Chevalier, whose digital creations employ generative technology that sees them evolve with infinite variations. The exhibition will also introduce two brand new Chilean artists to the gallery, including mysterious and evocative photographs from Cecilia Avendaño and powerful collages from Mauricio Garrido.
