The fleeting days of childhood, never to return, leave behind our most cherished memories.
Artspace K is pleased to present the “Childhood in Ceramic” Exhibition, dating from 8th July 2021 to 3rd October 2021. The exhibition gathers three acclaimed ceramic artists from Taiwan – Ah Leon (Chen Ching-Liang), Lee Chin-Sheng and Leo Tang (Tang Shou-Nan). A unique selection of 35 ceramic works in total will be showcased, including 3 internationally recognized works by Ah Leon, 12 works from the “Childhood Series” by Lee Chin-Sheng and 20 new works based on the theme of tin toys by Leo Tang.
Exhibiting artist Lee Chin-Sheng suffered from myocardial infarction in 2014. Despite surviving after treatment, he was diagnosed with amnesia and dementia, sadly ending his artistic career. His artworks in this exhibition were all created prior to his illnesses a rare appearance in recent years.
The curator of “Childhood in Ceramic Exhibition”, Monica Lee, says that the exhibition portrays the naivete and innocence of childhood through the works of three Taiwan artists. Through materialistic depiction and the manipulation of damp, thin layers of glaze, a perfect merger between paint and clay results. The articulation of scenarios and hyper-realistic sensations leave viewers in awe.
With the natural sense of warmth embedded in clay, artworks from the three artists in this exhibition awaken memories of innocence and joy of childhood by taking viewers on a trip back to their own happy childhood. During the exhibition period, Artspace K will also be holding related talks to help viewers develop deeper insights into the exhibition, artists, their creation motives and medium used.
