Sin Sin Fine Art is delighted to present “Déjà Vu”, showcasing the works by Indonesian artists Anusapati, M.Irfan and Putu Sutawijaya.
Déjà vu, a surreal and intimate sensation in your mind when a situation feels familiar. People refer to this phenomenon as “a glitch in the matrix”, or a message from our subconscious. The 3 artists each explore different recurring themes: nature, structure and body, which captivates audience with subliminal messages all related to humanity.
Anusapati’s poetic representation on the diminishing tree shadows manifest the destructive and irreversible effects of urbanisation.
Irfan’s obsession in the meticulous details of unemotional architecture allows us to appreciate the fact that these manmade objects, are essential backdrops and context to human encounters like departure or homecoming, motion or stasis, travel or displacement, reunion or separation.
Putu manipulates the imagery of the human body as the symbol of his expression. The human body is a vessel of our spirit and the medium of all human emotions. The ritualistic gestural movements of Putu’s figures translate intricate emotions in a powerful and unsettling form, as though the figures have ‘crossed over into three-dimensional space… to look for meaning in different contexts.’
The 3 artists’ seemingly diverging paths of subjects intersect on the theme of humanity. Humanity is complex and unexplainable like déjà vu. As “Déjà Vu” unfolds, guests will be enlightened with layered scenes that are distant yet familiar.
