disCONNECT is an exhibition that responds to the pandemic and explores themes of connection, belonging, isolation and reliance on technology at the time of COVID19. From the rigorous pre-exhibition planning to exhibition realisation, the practice corresponds with worldwide lockdown, quarantine and restrictions throughout the entire period.
disCONNECT showcases works of art that prompt reflection of the human need for a sense of belonging and the thirsting to be connected physically and emotionally in moments of isolation. Despite the pandemic raging around the globe and with the consequent travel restrictions and social distancing measures, disCONNECT has been able to realise physically and virtually in the exhibition space.
In this conversation moderated by Maria Wong from HKwalls, the gallerist Angela Li, whose gallery held an exhibition entitled Another Day, curated by Eric Leung, amongst the backdrop where ‘Mankind has entered a new phase of life under the epidemic and face drastic changes in the wake of the virus outbreak,’ the artist Jaffa Lam, who is a participating artist in disCONNECT HK, will be joined by Mark Tung, Director of Lee Gardens Association and Nicole Schoeni, Founder of Schoeni Projects, where they discuss the impact of COVID-19 on their connection with individuals and communities, as well as the innovative ways to respond to the current challenges in the art field in Hong Kong.
