“HANART 100: IDIOSYNCRASIES” is a curated selection of 100 significant artworks that range from early 20th century calligraphy to recent art. Its assemblage reflects a particular interpretation of Chinese art history of the 20th century to explore issues concerning the “Chinese contemporary”. A selection of TZ Chang’s curatorial projects with various partners will also be on display at Pedder Building. The symposium on 16th and 17th January features 20 speakers. Discussions will explore the <3 Art Worlds> existing simultaneously within the “Chinese contemporary”. These “3 art worlds” include the globalized capital world of contemporary art (which is often recognised as the only international platform), the world of Socialist art (usually characterized as already extinct), and the world of literati art (often structured as “tradition” of the past).
“HANART 100: IDIOSYNCRASIES” is curated by Chang Tsong-zung and Gao Shiming, and supported by researchers from the Institute of Contemporary Art and Social Thought (China Academy of Art).
