On the occasion of Lorna Simpson’s first solo exhibition in Greater China ‘Lorna Simpson. Special Characters’ currently on view at Hauser & Wirth Hong Kong, please join us for a livestreamed contemporary dance performance ‘Blow in the Wind’ by renowned choreographer, Yang Hao.

Having explored culture, history and identity throughout his career, Yang Hao will present an original performance inspired by the blue ice paintings in Simpson’s exhibition. ‘I have no idea who’s that woman in Lorna’s collage, nor have I met Lorna in person,’ said Yang, ‘but that painting haunted me, with mixed thoughts on identity, which is the topic in my practices and Lorna’s, I feel connected.’

The performance will be streamed live exclusively on ZaiArt, China’s most popular art specific livestreaming platform.

Join us live on ZaiArt on Saturday 19 September, 6:30pm HKT / BST 11:30am / 6:30am EST.

About ‘Lorna Simpson. Special Characters’

Hauser & Wirth Hong Kong presents ‘Special Characters’, the first solo exhibition in Greater China of renowned artist Lorna Simpson. The exhibition features new works from the artist’s Special Characters series, alongside a selection of her recent paintings and photographic collages. In addition to building upon themes that are essential to her practice, including the nature of representation, identity, gender, and race, Simpson incorporates imagery of the natural world, universal elements that transcend human presence. By repurposing and reconfiguring found images – a signature source in her work – Simpson creates her own highly distinctive visual terrain that offers a potent response to American life today.
