INKCHRONICITY
Li Hao | C.N.Liew | Qi Yu | Zhong Yueying
January 08 – March 10, 2015

Hong Kong, November 25, 2014 – Galerie du Monde is pleased to present Inkchronicity, a curated exhibition of conceptual ink art by Li Hao, C.N.Liew, Zhong Yueying and Qi Yu from January 8 to March 10, 2015.

LI HAO

Li Hao was born in 1982, and graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing. In 2012, his work “The Transformation about 798” was selected to be shown in The Second Modeling Art Exhibition of New Artists at the National Art Museum of China; in the same year, another of his works, “Get Lost”, was included in The Fifth Beijing International Art Biennale at the National Art Museum of China. His works have been exhibited extensively in China over the past few years and were shown at Art Taipei in 2013 and at Art London this year.

Li Hao’s work changed significantly this year. No longer limited to figurative work, he is doing abstract imagery such as with the series “Guixiang” and “Moxiang”. With his works inspiring the new idea of “ink”, he breaks the rules of traditional ink printing and elevates it to the spiritual level. Li Hao uses his abstract language to paint freely and challenges the adventitious nature of ink.

C.N.LIEW

C.N. Liew is a Malaysian Chinese painter and calligrapher based in Hong Kong. He was the first and only Malaysian artist to be featured at Art HK 2011 and at Fine Art Asia in 2013. His works have been featured as the cover art for the 2013 25th Asia Brand Excellence Award in Hong Kong hosted by Yazhou Zhoukan and again in 2014. He is the protégé of Zen artist Bo Yuan and Tan Swie Hian, Member-Correspondent of the Academie des Beaux-Arts of France. He was the Special Award Recipient of the 1st Seoul Calligraphy Biennale in 2005 and his works were entered into the World Chinese Calligraphy & Painting Records, endorsed by the Ministry of Culture of The People’s Republic of China and published by China Culture and Art Publication in 2000. His works have garnered him numerous awards and luminaries around the globe are collectors of his works.

QI YU

Qi Yu has born in Xiamen in 1969 and graduated from the Decoration and Design department of the Central Academy of Art and Craft. He is the director of the Visual Design Department of the Fine Arts Institute of the University of Jimei, Director of the Art Museum of the Fragrant Hills and Vice Chairman of the Committee of Ceramic Art of the Association of Artists of Fine Arts in Xiamen. He is currently working and residing in Beijing and Xiamen, focusing on ceramic paintings.

The creation of Qi Yu’s artwork reverts from ceramic art form to the characteristics of the porcelain itself. They are not only different from the context of traditional ceramics, but also different from the present generalization language of mixed media works. His artworks are a reflection of the heritage of tradition, and on the other hand, are also an expectation of self-transcendence.

ZHONG YUEYING

Zhong Yueying was born in Heilongjiang Province, China in 1960. He received his BA and MFA from the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in China. His painting received the Special Overseas Grand Prize at the Asian International Ink and Brush Painting Exhibition in Tokyo, Japan in 1993. He had solo exhibitions at Fontbonne University, St. Louis, Missouri, William Woods University, Stephens College, the University of Missouri, Saint Louis University Museum of Art, and The Missouri State Museum in the USA. In China, he has held exhibitions at the Art Museum of the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University Art Museum, Shenyang University Museum of Arts and at Zhongbai Art Museum.
