For Immediate Release:
We watch, as audiences confront large format artwork; their stance differs from
small format artwork viewing: Large format artwork occupies space inversely,
enveloping the viewer with emotion, like a window to the world.
No longer for public space only, large format artworks are increasingly squeezed
into personal space, disregarding conventional wisdom of framing and hanging.
In truth, large format artwork may not always “match” the sofa nor fit the décor.
“Large Format, Small Space” embraces the ironic reality of our small space living
in Hong Kong; celebrating artists’ refusal to capitulate to the confines of the small
space. Large format artists, fully aware of the physical constraints of Hong Kong
urban living, nonetheless insist on opening our minds to a world stretching
beyond our borders, to infinite skies, limitless emotions, and exuberant moments
of boundless creativity. We invite visitors to re-imagine scale and proportion and
living with art.
