Leo Gallery is proud to present PFAD (Dào), the second solo exhibition of German artist Max Huckle in Hong Kong.

PFAD (Dào) can be translated to “path” in German. A path that varies from individual to individual, filled with different experiences, values and approaches to life. Max Huckle’s works can be read in various ways, depending on which path you find yourself walking on. His paintings lure one in multifarious ways – from meaningful abstraction, a deep understanding of composition, to brittle yet powerful lines. Through his paintings, Max evokes a glimpse of the ephemeral nature of physical reality, while he still manages to leave enough space to the observer.

According to Dào (Taoist) every take on life has its right, relates to and depends on each other.

“For truly being and not being grow out of one another, difficult and easy complete one another, long and short test one another, high and low determine one another, pitch and mode give harmony to one another, front and back give sequence to one another.” (Dao De Jing, Chapter 2).

Only by being aware of this natural order of the universe, one can realize the potential for individual wisdom and growth along the distinct path. Max ‘s paintings thrive on this concept as he finds his inspiration in everyday life – everything is of equal value – unplanned walks with no destination, observing trees losing them leafs when winter comes, but also when a rock intentionally smashes a window. Even the process of painting itself finds its place in this enumeration.

It is Max’ incessant curiosity for his surroundings that reveals itself in front of your eyes when looking at his paintings. His persistence is what makes Max’ path, which shows itself in his paintings – they are tastefully persistent without forcing themselves upon you.

It is up to you what you make out of it.

Where will you go?
