Opera Gallery Hong Kong and Hong Kong Art Gallery Association are delighted to co-present ‘In Dialogue with Creatives – Embracing Conflicts and Minorities in Photography’ a series of talks to gather an insight into Hong Kong’s local talents. The fourth edition we invite Hong-Kong born photographer Kasper Forest, the award winner of ArtNext International Artist Gold Award 2019.
Kasper Forest aspires to expose the pre-existed oxymorons in Hong Kong as the subject of his artistic creation, keeping within conjunction of his concept attributed to capturing the antithesis of the city. His artistic trajectory utilises black and white photography to contrast between the polarising social tiers and the bright lights of the city, unmasking cultural taboos and the lives of those who defy societal standards to stay true to their own identity.
The diversity in Hong Kong constitutes as the stem of Forest’s work. On 11 January, you are invited to join us for a talk followed by a Q & A session as we explore how Forest maneuvers through the streets of Hong Kong and captures the lives of minorities in the city.
About the artist
Kasper Forest is a Hong Kong artist who established an interest with this medium of photography in 2011 centralising his focus on street photography since 2016. In the same year he started a documentary of 10 years – ConflictHongKong, for which he captures the minorities living in the city. As a photographer, he utilises his camera as a recording device to capture the moments of life before every aspect of culture, customs in society fades away through time. He delves into the lives of those at the bottom of the social ladder, bringing to light the realities of those who live in the ‘shadows’ behind the glamour and allurement of the city.
