To celebrate Fourth of July and the inaugural edition of Hong Kong Art Gallery Association’s Southside Saturday, Alisan Fine Arts Aberdeen is excited to present Chinese-American artist Walasse Ting’s poems.
Internationally acclaimed Ting is well recognised for his vibrant and brightly coloured nudes, flowers and bird paintings but in fact he is also an avid poet. From the 1960s-90s, Ting had more than ten poetry and painting collections published. Ting’s poetry exudes romanticism and a certain impromptu. Much like his paintings, his poems also express a love for everyday life and the mundane. His most famous collection of works 1 Cent Life (1964) was curated by his friend, famed American abstract expressionist Sam Francis. It collected works from 28 European and American masters, as well as over 60 original lithographs including works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Joan Mitchell. The original edition of 1 Cent Life was collected by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY.
A reading of a selection of his poems will take place throughout the day at the start of every hour from 11am until 5pm, then followed by a guided tour of our current exhibition Contemporary Forms of Ink Painting. Artworks in the exhibition, other than paintings by Walasse Ting, include photographs by American photographer Michael Cherney, ink artworks by Mainland artists Lan Zhenghui, Nan Qi, Zhang Yirong and Zhang Yu, as well as the Birdcage series by Hong Kong sculptor Kum Chi-keung.
Please come join us to see another side of Ting.
Readings and guided tours will be in English and Chinese
In addition, Contemporary Forms of Ink Painting will be extended until the 25th of July with public opening hours from 10am-6pm
