Opera Gallery Hong Kong and Accidental Art are delighted to co-present ‘In Dialogue with Creatives – Reality Illustrated’ a series of talks to gather an insight into Hong Kong’s local talents. The third edition we invite Lau Chun Tao, a local artist who has adopted the outlet of drawing as a vehicle to express his inner thoughts, reflective upon ever-changing social climate and how Lau utilises his artistic endeavour to reveal the pressures and anxiety one undergoes in a metropolitan city like Hong Kong.
We are honoured to conduct a monthly discovery, in which we host the talks to discuss with local emerging artists that both are influenced by and contribute to the art scene in Hong Kong. You are invited to join us for a talk followed by a short Q&A session, as we discover how Lau constructs a dialogue by means of ink, textures and patterns that reflect his personal experiences as well as his social relationships and interactions.
About the artist
Lau Chun Tao (b.1994) attended The Academy of Visual Arts at The Hong Kong Baptist University, also participated in a yearlong exchange in Italy at the Accademia di Belle Arti, Bologna. His works are known for distorting objects through texture and patterns. Inspired by his observation of everyday life, his works reveal the social unease everyone endures living in the city, slowly unravelling his artistic approach in a kaleidoscopic colour scheme. Lau translates the social climate through his renditions of dream-like beings, narrating through his own language to convey the consequences of living in a big city.
