Karin Weber Gallery announces a special site installation by gallery artist Zhu Jingyi as part of Hong Kong Art Gallery Week. Between 7 and 8pm on Tuesday, 2nd December 2014, Zhu will demonstrate his unique three dimensional interpretation of traditional Chinese ink painting by using resin and a heat gun to create a special artwork on the gallery premises.
About the Artist:
Zhu Jingyi (China, b. 1975) reimagines classic shanshui landscapes in a three-dimensional format through the application of resin onto canvas and wire to create textured structures that enliven otherwise flat, ink painted works. ‘My works are very three dimensional. Thereby they are subject to different interpretations based on the environment. The semi-transparent nature of resin allows the work to fuse and connect with the space,’ comments Zhu.
Based in Shanghai, Zhu has exhibited widely in China, including the Today Art Museum in Beijing and Himalayas Art Museum in Shanghai, and is currently working on a large commission for Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Zhu’s second show with Karin Weber Gallery in Hong Kong is our current exhibition ‘Lodge of Tranquility.’
