Our three panelists will discuss the physical risks behind buying, selling and owning artwork.  They will also present a step-by-step process on what galleries and private collectors have to consider once they have artworks in their custody (whether owned or not).  Aspects related to shipping, storing and installing these artworks will also be discussed, as seen through the eyes of our panelists.

HKAGA members are also welcome to invite their friends from the art world to attend this talk.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES:

Rhiannon Alban-Davies – Fine Art Insurance Broker, Willis HK Ltd.

Rhiannon Alban-Davies, originally from London, has worked in the Willis Hong Kong office for two years where she had been originally focused on building and growing business for large corporations across Asia. She has since specialised in Fine Art insurance and is concentrating on tailoring policies for Galleries, Fine Art Dealers, Exhibitions, Museums, Private Collectors and Corporate Collectors, Fine Art Shippers and Auction Houses, working closely with colleagues in Willis London to access the leading insurance markets.

The Fine Art, Jewellery and Specie (FAJS) division of Willis is the largest in the world with offices in London, New York, Washington DC., Chicago, Europe and Hong Kong.  With a world-renowned reputation, the FAJS department has helped resolve multi-million dollar claims for clients all over the world and places an emphasis on understanding the intricacies which go side by side with handling, collecting and investing in the fine art world.

Rhiannon has previously worked as a reservist in the Royal Air Force and in the private security industry.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree from University College London where she read Latin and Ancient Greek, and a Master’s in International Security from Kings College London.

Torsten Hendricks – Managing Director, Integrated Fine Art Solutions (IFAS)

Torsten Hendricks has been based in Asia since 2004 (Taiwan, China and Hong Kong). In 2008 he started IFAS Asia in China and Hong Kong. For more than 6 years, Torsten was responsible for managing the operations for the group in China and was in charge of prestigious projects such as the Chu Teh-Chun retrospective at Namoc in Beijing, 50 years Dior retrospective at UCCA, Olympic Museum Lausanne Exhibition during the Beijing Olympics 2008, the Swiss Pavilion for the World Expo Shanghai 2010, and various others.

In 2012, Torsten relocated to Hong Kong to serve the growing market in Hong Kong as the managing director of the company. He has lived with his wife and two sons for more than three years in Hong Kong and is happy working with various galleries, museums, auction houses and private collectors on the local market.

Robert Scally – Managing Director, Robert Scally & Associates Limited (RSA)

Bob has worked as an Insurance Adjuster specializing in fine art claims for over 30 years. RSA was established in 2005; prior to such Bob had regional responsibilities for Crawford & Co.. Bob is based in Hong Kong and handles art claims throughout Asia. RSA has a small team of niche market Adjusters all familiar with art claims and art restoration. RSA also provides risk management advice to museums, galleries, auction houses and private collectors on behalf of insurers. Specific to auction houses RSA’s clients in recent years have included Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Bonhams, Spink & Co., China Guardian, and Poly Auction, along with many other local auction houses. RSA has also worked with a considerable number of local and international galleries providing risk management advice as well as adjusting claims that have arisen.
