Two stunning side-by-side exhibitions by Italian artist Athos Faccincani and Spaniard Josè Molina open at Fabrik Gallery on April 30th. Curated by Elisabetta Bertellini, the subject matter, styles and execution by the two artists provide an intriguing contrast.
“La Dolce Vita” by Athos Faccincani
Italian painter Athos Faccincani brings his exuberant landscapes to Hong Kong – stunning depictions of Venice, Positano, Portofino and Santorini. His works typically feature the sun high in a blue sky, the classic houses of the Mediterranean and the lush colors of the vegetation. His canvases strike the viewer with their strength, the brightness of the colors and the beauty of the views. Faccincani studied to be an accountant, and broke his motherʼs heart by running away to Venice as a young man to join the Academy of Fine Arts. And 40 years later, he is still painting and now exhibiting all over the world.
“Humanity” by Josè Molina
Spanish artist Josè Molina now lives and paints in Italyʼs Lake Como region. His exhibition “Humanity” comprises works from several series of fascinating paintings, which he created between 2007 and 2013. They tell the story of what is visible and what is invisible, a subject the artist has explored by studying psychology and anthropology, and travelling to the most remote parts of the planet. This is a far cry from Molinaʼs previous life working as a Creative Director for large multinational companies.
