A Permanent Instant: instant photography from 1980s-2000s by Hong Kong artists

The exhibition showcases the original and unique instant photography works by selected Hong Kong artists who practise photography and other artistic media. Instant photography as a democratic photographic medium because of its low-tech, impromptu and private nature, allows different forms of photographic and artistic experiments both conceptually and technically, was widely used by photographers and artists alike during 1980s-2000s. It was used both as a means (to test lighting and preview composition for final works) and an end (to create standalone works with different forms of manipulations including painting, scratching, collage). The interesting discovery is when the means turns into an end. The unique works on view also reflect a facet of the Hong Kong photography scene influenced by western art movements and figures, films and ideologies including Andy Warhol, pop art, abstraction and futurism.
