Armin Boehm Solo

Immerse yourself in Armin Boehm’s prismatic world in his first solo here at Leo Gallery Hong Kong, which transcends conventional boundaries through his collection of intricate layers and textures.

Once a student of renowned German artists Jörg Immendorff (1945-2007) and Konrad Klapheck (1935-2023), Boehm has an unyielding passion for using colours and elements to draw visible relationships across his compositions. Boehm weaves together multiple media, such as fragments of paint, fabric, paper and glass to captivatingly depict portraits and everyday objects.

Boehm’s chosen medium of oil and fabrics on canvas adds depth and texture to his compositions. The interplay between the luminous layers of oil paint and the carefully selected fabrics introduces a multi-dimensional quality to his pieces, resulting in visually stunning and tactile works of art.

Within each stroke and use of fabric, Boehm explores profound themes, from identities to memories, to the contrast between lights and shadows. It guides viewers through a realm of emotions and inviting new contemplation and introspection.

Armin Boehm (b. 1972, Aachen, Germany)

Boehm, studied at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with the instruction of Jörg Immendorff and Konrad Klapheck. Boehm now lives and works in Berlin.

With a mesmerising use of colour that draws visible psychological relationships across his compositions, Boehm embeds his subjects into a prismatic world of figuration, symbolism, and cultural reference. In his works on canvas, he uses the technique of collage to conjoin paint, textiles and fabric, media from which his subjects emerge, almost sculpturally materialising in concrete space. As Boehm’s artistic journey unfolded, he began to explore the enchantment of light pastel colours in his palette, instead of being drawn to the profound allure of black.

Boehm’s work was featured in exhibitions in many international galleries across multiple countries like Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, the United States and other, including Kunstverein Braunschweig, Braunschweig; K21 – Kunstsammlung NRW, Düsseldorf; Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt; Städel Museum, Frankfurt and Me Collectors Room, Stiftung Olbricht, Berlin. His works have also been exhibited at Art Basel Hong Kong, the Armory Show in New York, Art Basel Miami Beach, Art Cologne and other major international art fairs.
