Ant Ngai Wing-lam

Alisan Fine Arts-Aberdeen

On the occasion of Southside Saturday, Ant Ngai Wing-lam will be in conversation with gallery director Daphne King about her creative process and the stories behind the works which were specially commissioned for Alisan Aberdeen’s current group exhibition Chinese Surrealism. At the end of the conversation, Ngai will also present a live demonstration of her artistic approach.

In addition, hourly guided tours will take place between 11am – 3pm.

About the Exhibition

This exhibition is a response to the French Surrealist exhibition: Mythologies & Beyond: Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou which is currently on show at the Hong Kong Museum of Art in collaboration and is presented by the French May Arts Festival this year.

The artists include Cherie Cheuk Ka-waiMok Yat-sanMui Ngo-suet, CharlotteNgai Wing-lam, AntWu Shaoxiang and Zhang Xiaoli. Selected for their interest in Surrealist ideas and imagery such as, dreamscapes and the exploration of the unconscious mind. Using a contemporary Chinese lens, they portray surrealism with their individual technique and media. The surrealist artists they are taking inspiration from include Rene Magritte, Salvador Dali, Man Ray, Alberto Giacometti, Giorgio Chirico and Joan Miro.

About the Artist

Ant Ngai Wing-lam graduated with a BA from Hong Kong Baptist University Academy of Visual Arts in 2008. Her main medium is painting, and her work often depicts people with the head of a fish. These stories and characters are inspired by her own dreams and surroundings. Having grown up in Hong Kong, her paintings often take place in the landscape of the city.
