Sin Wai Kin: It's Always You

Date: 20 November, 2021 | 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Blindspot Gallery is delighted to present It’s Always You, Sin Wai Kin’s first solo exhibition in Asia. Presenting works never previously shown in Hong Kong, chronologically from 2016 to 2021, this exhibition traces the creative journey of the artist, who again and again reinvents themselves to hold multiple identities, and to shift between different ways of being. Encompassing film, face wipes, performance, texts, ephemera, Sin’s practice embraces a breadth of material and gender expressions and the worlding of alterity. The manifold journey of It’s Always You manifests the perils and joys of naming, the cycle of birth and endless rebirth, the inevitability of change, and the ease and grace of metamorphosis. Sin Wai Kin is a carrier bag, a gatherer and forager of characters, dan... Read more

Jonas Wood

by Jonas Wood

Date: 26 November, 2021 | 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Gagosian is pleased to present an exhibition of ten new paintings by Jonas Wood, together with two sets of related drawings in Hong Kong this fall. This is Wood’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. The concept for the exhibition stemmed from the artist’s mid-career survey at the Dallas Museum of Art in 2019 when he reencountered Polka Dot Orchid (2015), a painting he had made of a single plant against a black background. The work was hung alongside other paintings of isolated plants in a room wallpapered with repeating tennis balls. Following that exhibition, and over the course of the lockdown period of 2020, Wood continued to consider the idea of making works on black grounds and the opportunity of hanging them together. The new paintings continue Wood’s exploration into motifs of... Read more

Xue Feng Solo Exhibition - Seurat Studies: Monitors and Printers

by Xue Feng

Date: 27 November, 2021 | 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
1. Xue Feng is far more interested in the printed material than in the landscape. 2. Before Xue Feng’s painting style had fully formed, two events had a major influence on him, and became creative resources. The first took place in 1997, the year Xue Feng graduated from college. He accepted a job painting 20 copies of Isaac Levitan’s famous work By the Whirlpool. He was not interested in the beautiful painting, the moving story, or the summer dusk; what interested him was why he achieved a different effect with every one of the 20 copies of the painting. Were these subtle differences caused by variations in the colors he mixed, the brushwork, or his mood? These doubts, like the ripples in the whirlpool in the painting, lingered for quite a while without dispersing. Second, Xue had, by c... Read more

Date: 25 September, 2021 | 11:00 am - 7:00 pm
Perrotin Hong Kong is pleased to present German artist Gregor Hildebrandt’s latest exhibition Behind My Back, In Front of My Eyes, marking his second solo show in the city. Hildebrandt is known for his innovative artworks using repetition for their collage structure and “sound paper” as their medium. Sound paper, or Tönendes Papier as it was originally coined, was named by the creator of magnetic tape, the German opera lover and inventor Fritz Pfleumer, in 1928. Pfleumer used the term to refer to magnetic tape used to record and play back audio. Over time, sound paper has taken on a variety of functions. In the 1960s, tape was widely applied for military and technological purposes. Cassette tape proved to be fungible, usable well beyond the realm of audio recording. And yet, Hildebrandt e...
