Liminal space & colour: Personal and Collective Urban Memories
To accompany Sophie Cheung’s third solo show Concrete Colour, Ora-Ora presents a bespoke workshop led by the artist.
In Concrete Colour, the gradual erosion of familiar sights in the artist’s home city becomes a departure point for an exploration of memory and the landmarks of belonging.
In a fast-shifting world, the near-universal sensation of nostalgia and coping with rapid change is paired with the in‑betweenness of liminal time and the spiritual struggles it evokes.
Responding to the city’s changes, the artist guides participants to absorb and reshape impressions into images.
The workshop begins with a group reading of selected passages from Hong Kong newspapers, followed by individual readings at each participant’s own pace.
A series of creative activities will then take place. The artist will discuss how colour and “liminal space” can heal and open new possibilities for creation.
Finally, participants will describe their cherished city colours and in‑between urban spaces, and respond through painting, embarking on a journey toward memory and healing.
Limited spaces, bookable in advance, the workshop will be conducted in Cantonese only.
Sign-up is required to join this workshop.
