Role Description
The Associate Director is a full-time, on-site role based in Hong Kong SAR, responsible for growing sales as well as supporting the strategic and operational management of the gallery. Day-to-day tasks include overseeing exhibition planning and execution, coordinating with artists and collectors, and managing sales activities and client relationships. The role involves developing and implementing marketing and outreach initiatives, preparing catalogues and promotional materials, and maintaining the gallery's public presence across digital and traditional channels. The Associate Director will supervise selected staff activities, ensure smooth daily gallery operations, and represent the gallery at events, fairs, and professional engagements. This position requires close collaboration with the leadership team to drive growth, maintain high curatorial standards, and enhance the gallery's reputation.
Qualifications
• Demonstrated 8+ years experience in gallery management, museum work, or arts administration, with strong knowledge of contemporary visual arts and the international art market.
• Proven track record in sales and ability in client relationship management, including working with collectors, institutions, and artists, and managing sales processes in a professional, ethical manner.
• Skills in project and event management, including planning, coordinating, and executing exhibitions, openings, and art-related programs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) is highly advantageous.
• Competence in marketing and communications, including use of social media, digital tools, and basic design or layout software for promotional materials.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Comfort with business operations such as budgeting, reporting, and basic contract or consignment review.
• Bachelor's degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Cultural Management, Business, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
• Ability to work on-site, including occasional evenings and weekends for events, and to collaborate respectfully with a diverse range of colleagues and stakeholders.
