Head of Business Development
Ben Brown Fine Arts is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Head of Business Development to join the gallery’s senior team. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving the gallery’s commercial growth across both the primary and secondary markets, cultivating existing and new collectors, strengthening institutional relationships, and expanding the gallery’s international reach.
The position requires a strong understanding of the international modern and contemporary art markets, an established network of collectors and industry contacts, and the ability to identify and develop long-term commercial opportunities for the gallery and its artists.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Drive sales across the gallery’s primary and secondary market programme, including exhibitions, art fairs and gallery inventory.
- Develop and implement sales strategies for the gallery’s represented artists.
- Source and secure high-quality secondary-market consignments for exhibitions, art fairs and gallery stock.
- Identify new business opportunities and develop initiatives that contribute to the gallery’s long-term commercial growth.
Client Development
- Manage and cultivate relationships with existing collectors, advisors, family offices and other key clients.
- Proactively develop new client relationships and introduce new collectors to the gallery programme.
- Expand awareness of Ben Brown Fine Arts and its artists within key international markets.
- Develop strategies to broaden the gallery’s collector base and strengthen relationships across existing and emerging markets.
Museums & Institutions
- Develop and maintain relationships with museums, foundations, curators and other cultural institutions.
- Identify opportunities for institutional placements and exhibitions involving gallery artists.
- Support the development of museum and institutional visibility for the gallery’s programme internationally.
Art Fairs
- Contribute to the gallery’s overall art fair strategy.
- Attend and represent the gallery at key international art fairs.
- Develop client strategies around fairs, including pre-fair outreach, sales activity and post-fair follow-up.
- Work closely with the sales team to maximise commercial opportunities arising from art fairs.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Work closely with the gallery’s directors and international sales teams to coordinate client, artist and business development strategy.
- Share market intelligence and identify new business opportunities across the gallery’s locations.
- Build relationships across the wider art market and identify opportunities to strengthen the gallery’s profile, reach and commercial network.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
- Significant experience in a senior sales or business development role within a leading international gallery, auction house, art advisory or comparable art-market organisation.
- A strong track record of sales across the modern and/or contemporary art markets.
- An established international network of collectors, advisors, institutions and art-world professionals.
- Demonstrable experience developing new clients and maintaining long-term collector relationships.
- Strong knowledge of both primary and secondary market practices.
- A strong understanding of international art fairs, exhibitions and market trends.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-management skills.
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to identify and develop new business opportunities.
