Bertozzi & Casoni

Date: 1 December, 2018 | 12:00 am - 11:59 pm
Rossi Martino, the commercial partnership of Fabio Rossi and Giovanni Martino established to promote European art in Asia, is pleased to announce an exhibition on the work of Italian ceramic artists Giampaolo Bertozzi and Stefano Casoni. Known as Bertozzi & Casoni, the two began their practice in 1980 in Imola, a region well known for its ceramic craftsmanship. Bertozzi & Casoni reverse iconographic conventions and perceptive elements, freely mixing various references and contradicting presuppositions. Flamingo(2012) features a grotesquely decorated plate carrying the severed head of the work’s titular bird, whilst in Diana(2016), a lady’s handbag conceals rock star sunglasses, cigarette packets and pill bottles. Straddling compositional surrealism and formal hyperrealism... Read more

Ham Kyungah

by Ham Kyungah

Date: 27 November, 2018 | 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Hong Kong – Pace Gallery Hong Kong is hosting a solo exhibition for Korean artist Ham Kyungah. She is known for her multidisciplinary experimental work in fields ranging across painting, photography, installation, performance, and video art. This exhibition consists of her signature work, a series of six large-scale needle paintings of chandeliers that have been completed in collaboration with North Korean embroidery craftsmen. Her artwork has sought to reveal the hidden side of social systems that affect each individual’s life, reaching their culmination through needle painting. Coming across North Korean propaganda leaflets that scattered in the wind outside her parents’ house in 2008 became the trigger of her attempt to communicate with North Koreans, who are completely isolat... Fernando Prats - Nature Paintings

by Fernando Prats

Date: 13 November, 2018 | 11:00 am - 7:00 pm
Puerta Roja is proud to announce Nature Paintings, a major solo exhibition by Chilean artist Fernando Prats, debuting the artist’s Paintings of Birds series in Hong Kong for the very first time. Since representing Chile at the 54th Venice Biennale, Prats has reached international acclaim for devising a brand new and deeply personal pictorial system. Far removed from the instruments of the painter, his process results in unconventional and unpredictable images generated by nature. Prats records natural actions on smoked surfaces, ranging from movements of animals, to powerful waves, seismographic vibrations and even imprints of geysers shooting water from the ground (an intervention possible thanks to the Guggenheim Fellowship). French theorist Paul Ardenne describes Prats’ work as pio... Read more

one, maybe two Parsecs

by Eric Baudart

Date: 24 October, 2018 | 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
‘one, maybe two Parsecs’, Eric Baudart’s solo show at Edouard Malingue Gallery, Hong Kong refers to a unit of length or distance as coined to describe astronomical objects outside the solar system. Baudart uses this scientific rooting and also approach to discovery to address a process that involves the seeking of answers, which opens more questions: how what we know is that we’ll never know everything; how one may turn to understand a face or a piece of music, contemplate it, yet never completely solve it. Through a set of sculptural works and paintings that evoke Baudart’s continued interest in objects and materiality, he explores this condition of going towards what one does not know without fully conquering it. Each work is dotted throughout the space as part of a constell... Read more
