ARTS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Job Description

The Arts Development Officer’s role is to work under with leadership of the HKAGA Executive Officer and the Co-presidents as well as Directors of the Board in developing the annual strategy for HKAGA and drive the execution plan. To support all administrative works related to the Association such as finance, website and social media maintenance, marketing, as well as event management including seeking for collaborations and sponsorships, operation, budgeting, and to assist writing grant applications and reports. The Arts Development Officer will also serve as the main point of liaison between HKAGA and member galleries, arts and cultural organisations, government bodies, art fairs, and etc.

 

Responsibilities:

  • HKAGA Administrative work
  • Updating website & social media channels
  • Maintaining database and records
  • Book-keeping, simple accounting work & financial updates
  • Writing/proof-reading/editing e-newsletters, press releases & literature
  • Coordinating marketing efforts
  • Sourcing suppliers & vendors
  • Serving as the main point of liaison for galleries, arts & cultural organisations, government bodies, art fairs, educational institutions & corporations

Support the Executive Officer in:

  • Preparation of grant applications, reports, presentations and proposals
  • Engaging HKAGA with collaborators, supporters, and sponsors, discussing potential and strategic partnerships and raising sponsorship funds
  • Liaising regularly with member and non-member art galleries in Hong Kong to build relationships
  • Liaising and networking with the cultural community in Hong Kong in order to identify areas of collaboration and mutual support
  • Developing and internship recruitment plan and help the Executive Officer in managing and supervising interns, including overseeing daily office administration, finances, marketing & public relations
  • Planning, organising and executing events and initiatives, primarily Hong Kong Art Week in November

 

Knowledge/ Skills:

  • University degree
  • At least 2 years working experience
  • Relevant educational or work experience in Arts/Culture or Marketing/PR
  • Excellent command of spoken & written English & Chinese is a MUST
  • Proficiency in spoken Putonghua
  • Mature, presentable, with good communication & interpersonal skills
  • Possessing initiative & self-motivation
  • Ability to work independently & efficiently
  • Ability to multi-task, with good organisational skills
  • Attention to details a must
  • Knowledge of relevant computer programs (incl. Photoshop, InDesign, Mailchimp, Survey Monkey, etc.) preferred

The gallery offers internships for candidates looking for professional art gallery experience and training.

Responsibilities:
- Assist in updating gallery website, artist catalogues, specific projects, and upcoming exhibitions
- Assist in online art marketing; social media and online arts promotion

Requirements:
- Computer literate, Apple OSX, etc.
- Strong English language skills and Mandarin a plus; other languages also attractive

Position Summary:

- Ensure the overall safety, preservation, maintenance, and documentation of artworks on view, in storage, and on loan.

- Oversee the management of the gallery physical space and activities, including installation and deinstallation of artwork, opening and closing procedures and special events.

- Receive, catalogue and photograph newly delivered works; plan and organise exhibition-related movement of objects, including packing, shipping, and insurance for exhibitions as well as for incoming and outgoing shipments.

- Manage the database of inventory and digital images.

Responsibilities:

- Manage all aspects of artwork care, following and implementing accepted professional standards and practices.

- Maintain inventory records, database and labels; maintain files and archives.

- Coordinate with Rossi & Rossi London on the maintenance of internal databases.

- Responsible for logistics related to loans and traveling exhibitions, including documentation, condition reports, packing, shipping, and receiving.

- Administer loan forms and agreements and ensure adherence to established policies.

- Prepare and maintain all equipment needed for art fairs—toolbox and supplies.

- Coordinate Audio and Visual equipment needed for exhibitions.

- Organise and maintain gallery tools and equipment used for installation, repairs, conservation and storage.

- Establish object conservation priorities and plan/implement the safe storage of all works.

- Oversee monitoring of environmental conditions, including humidity and temperature.

- Assist in preparing proposals and applications for fairs and special exhibitions.

- Proper packing of artworks and maintenance of packing supplies.

- Liaise with shippers and manage off-site storages.

- Oversee local deliveries and off-site hanging when required.

- Coordinate framing and delivery of artwork to and from framers.

- Train and supervise part-time staff and and/or interns performing related work.

- Complete a bi-annual inventory report for the management team.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in art, art history, museum studies or related field and/ or experience as an Art Handler, Registrar or Collections Manager or comprehensive studio experience.

Required Skills:

- Fluency in Cantonese and English.

- Proficiency in photography and working with photographic equipment, digital file maintenance and photo-editing software.

- Proficiency on Mac platform and related software.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds.

A successful candidate should have a strong work ethic, an eye for detail, understanding of art handling, packing and storage, knowledge of photography equipment, willing to dedicate additional hours during exhibition installations and have a positive attitude about performing many kinds of tasks on a demanding schedule.

Position: Gallery Manager (Full-Time)

Duties of Gallery Manager at Art Supermarket:

- Ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the gallery

Qualifications/Requirements:

- Administration and marketing education/background and art experience in the art industry
- Languages: excellent written and conversational English. In addition: Cantonese and Mandarin are an advantage
- Strong artwork sales experience and highly skilled communicator
- Personal network with collectors, institutions and curators in Hong Kong and overseas
- Strong interest and knowledge in art, the Hong Kong and the international art scene
- Flexible and dynamic personality
- Discrete and professional attitude
- 3+ years’ experience in art industry/gallery is a plus
- Well organised, self-motivated and able to handle multiple projects and exhibitions under tight deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Mac OS (including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Excel etc) and experienced in maintaining social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, WeChat etc.)
- Graphic design experience is an advantage
