Art Handler – 10 Chancery Lane Gallery

10 Chancery Lane Gallery is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Art Handler to assist in the daily needs of the gallery.

Responsibilities:

Ensure the safe and timely preparation of works of art for display, exhibition, and transport:
– Handle and move art, including installation and de-installation in the galleries, storage areas and off-site deliveries, and moving crated/packed works on and off vehicles
– Pack/unpack works of art
– Assist in making assessments concerning the safety of works of art and taking the necessary action and/or reporting problems to appropriate staff

Prepare galleries for display/exhibition:
– Paint, drywall, move freestanding walls
– Prepare basic lighting preparation
– Hang and install artwork

Maintain a functional and safe environment:
– Recommend the purchase and/or repair of hand and power tools and other equipment
– Clean and organise art storage areas
– Monitor inventory of materials and supplies

Requirements:
– Strong command of English and Cantonese essential
– Previous art handling skills preferred but not essential
– Basic knowledge of construction, painting, handling of machinery
– Attentive to detail, have a high degree of manual dexterity
– Respect for the fragility of works of art
– Must be a creative, conscientious individual who takes pride in own work, with the ability to work collaboratively with others
– Must be self-motivated, able to schedule/pace the workload, work well under pressure, meet deadlines and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
