Gallery Manager (Full-Time) – Art Supermarket

Art Supermarket (founded in 2011) is an unconventional art gallery with the ambition to bring excellent and original art into our daily lives. The gallery showcases a wide range of art works by emerging Asian and Western contemporary artists, and is known to be a forward-looking contributor to the Hong Kong arts scene.

Position: Gallery Manager (Full-Time)

Duties of Gallery Manager at Art Supermarket:

– Ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the gallery
– Planning, organising, presenting and marketing exhibitions and shows, including responsibility for public relations, scheduling and managing exhibitions
– Arranging transportation of work to and from the gallery, both nationally and internationally
– Organising equipment hire and ensuring correct installation of the artwork
– Responsible for gallery website updates, Facebook, Instagram, Artsy, mailings and in-gallery information about the exhibitions
– Examination of works, documenting and issuing certificates on works in the collection of Art Supermarket gallery
– Preparations of exhibition catalogs
– Keeping up to date with Asian and international contemporary art, industry developments and market trends
– Promoting artists’ works
– Preparation and participating in international art exhibitions
– Follow up on sales and administration, contact with clients, prospects, press, etc.
– Maintaining and expanding client lists and portfolios
– Acquiring new corporate clients

Qualifications/Requirements:

– Administration and marketing education/background and art experience in the art industry
– Languages: excellent written and conversational English. In addition: Cantonese and Mandarin are an advantage
– Strong artwork sales experience and highly skilled communicator
– Personal network with collectors, institutions and curators in Hong Kong and overseas
– Strong interest and knowledge in art, the Hong Kong and the international art scene
– Flexible and dynamic personality
– Discrete and professional attitude
– 3+ years’ experience in art industry/gallery is a plus
– Well organised, self-motivated and able to handle multiple projects and exhibitions under tight deadlines
– Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Mac OS (including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Excel etc) and experienced in maintaining social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, WeChat etc.)
– Graphic design experience is an advantage
– Holding a valid permit to work in Hong Kong is an advantage
– Immediate availability is preferred
