Opera Gallery Hong Kong is excited to present ‘In dialogue with creatives – The creator of Smiles’ the first in a series of talks to be hosted to gather an insight into local talents, on 18 September 2019, 6:30-8:30pm. Hosted by Opera Gallery’s Director Sharlane Foo, the first edition we introduce Elsa Jean de Dieu, the Hong-Kong based French muralist responsible for the larger than life ‘Smile’ portraits that adorn the walls of Hong Kong Central.
Along with the ‘Female Portrait show’ presented by Opera Gallery Hong Kong this month, you are invited to join us for a Q&A as we discover how Elsa goes from the theory of a project to the realisation of a mural, discover the process involved in the creation of these much loved murals that have become synonymous with Hong Kong, as the dynamic street fields will be re-presented in the gallery space.
Elsa Jean de Dieu has been based in Asia for the last nine years, in which time she has been commissioned for murals and artworks for clients including CHANEL, Robuchon au Dome Macau, the French embassies in Brussels and Oslo, and luxury art-pieces for style icons Delphine Arnault of LVMH Group and Caroline de Monaco, the Princess of Hanover.
Elsa’s early training was at Atelier Lucien Tourtoulou in Paris, where she honed her skills in the creation of unique textures and interior decorating. In 2008, Elsa became Artistic Director for a Hong Kong based company and relocated beginning her love affair with the city. 2015 saw the launch of Elsa Jeandedieu Studio, in Hong Kong where she now heads up a team of dedicated artists.
Elsa Jeandedieu Studio comprises of a team of three, Elsa Jean de Dieu, Carol Bellese Choi and Claire Coutrel whose creative forces combined, work to create unique wall murals, special paint finishes, wall textures and artworks using specialty paints to bring to life the character of your space, whether it’s a restaurant, retail shop, yoga studio, or even your home.
Through this artist talk, Opera Gallery Hong Kong hopes to offer an in-depth experience of the creative culture from Hong Kong’s street corners, and connect with the fascinating creativity of Elsa Jean de Dieu as an inspiring female artist.
